Filing Status

A taxpayer's filing status may be single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, head of household, or qualifying widow(er) with dependent child. Filing status is dependent on marital status, filing method, and other factors. Generally, marital status is determined on the last day of your tax year. If your spouse died during the tax year, your marital status is determined at the time of your spouse's death, unless you remarry before the end of the tax year.
